The
Rotis family of typefaces was designed in 1989 by
Otl Aicher for
Agfa. It was his last type design, named after a small village in southern
Germany, where he lived.
Rotis is unique in that it consists of matching subfamilies:
Sans Serif,
Semi Sans,
Semi Serif and
Serif. Readily identifiable in all four subfamilies is the leftward leaning upper and lowercase C.
Some contemporary type designers regard the Rotis as looking
fascist, although this is merely a
visual thing and clearly opposes
Aicher's general philosophy.
