Rohirrim is the name given to the people of Rohan, a nation of men located across the White Mountains, to the north of Gondor. The term Rohirrim is derived from the Elvish for "people of the horse-lords." Originally descended from the Éothéod of the north Anduin, they were known for their skill in breeding, and fighting upon, horses.

The Rohirrim called their nation the Riddermark (or, simply, The Mark), and their armies were divided into éoreds. Their kings dwelt in the Golden Hall of Medulsed in their chief city and capital, Edoras. A hardy people, the Riders of the Mark were at war for most of their history; and they performed many honorable deeds.
