Ingredients: Grease 2 baking trays, and set your oven to 200C.

Rub the fat into the flour, salt and spices until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar and raisins. Make a well in the centre, pour in the egg, lemon juice, and a little milk and stir in the dry ingredients, adding more milk, if necessary, to give a stiff dough. Spoon the mixture into small piles on the trays and bake for a quarter of an hour to 20 minutes.

If you leave out the baking powder you get ... biscuits!
