Robert Earl Keen is a phenomenally talented Texas born singer songwriter. And rumor has it he is the favorite singer of our current president.

Keen started playing the guitar with his neighbor Lyle Lovett while attending Texas A&M's journalism school. He got his first work providing songs for Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Joe Ely, and Kelly Willis. After he made a name for himself, as a talented progressive country/alt-country/no depression artist in Austin, TX he released his first album No Kinda Dancer, but he failed to make a name for himself outside of Texas alt-country circles until his 1994 album Gringo Honeymoon.

His music is infused with traditional Americana or roots music sounds, with a touch of sarcastic wit (for an example of this listen to his song "Copenhagen"). His latest release Gravitational Forces is brilliant, especially the song "Walkin' Cane".
