1998 National Individual Poetry Slam Champion. He has shared the stage with such talents as the Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez and Roy Ayers. Some of Regie's work can also be heard in the movie LOVE JONES. He is a regular contributor to NPR. His first full-length book STORMS BENEATH THE SKIN (nappyhead press) was released in winter '99.

Regie has spoken, lectured and performed at schools, universities and venues on two continents and in six countries. He was a Poet in Residence at the FEO Ellis Center. Unknown to almost everyone but people in Chicago, he is part of the music group Church of the Funky Word which is described as "a musical sound prayer devoted to the history of Black music expressed through word."

His brand of "word-speak" has been called "rhythmistical" because of his combining of the time-honored mystical weaving of the African griot tradition with the often hard-edged rhythms of the African experience in America.
