A character in Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. He is a physically beautiful man, descended from a noble family in Europe. He came to America to study at Patrick Henry University. It was here that he met John Galt, who he later joined in the quest to 'stop the motor of the world'. While at PHU, he worked as a clerk in the university library, intending to become an ivory tower philosopher. When he joins the strike, he becomes a pirate who robs ships carrying government aid, converting the stolen goods into gold, which he gives to wealthy industrialists as payback for the income taxes 'stolen' from them by the government. He is married to Kay Ludlow, gorgeous actress. After civilization collapses, he gives up piracy to study Aristotle.
