New York Art Deco theater, located at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street, part of Rockefeller Center. Founded by Roxy Rothafel in 1932. Named after the Radio Corporation of America (RCA). Interior designed by Donald Deskey. Features a Wurlitzer organ, the "Great Stage" designed by Peter Clark, 66.5 feet deep and 144 feet wide, with a hydraulic elevator system (the technology was borrowed by the US Navy for use in WW2 aircraft carriers. During the war, the Navy posted a guard in the Music Hall basement to protect this technology.) During the annual Christmas Spectacular, the elevator is used to move the entire orchestra from their place in front of the audience, under the stage and having them reappear high up in the back of the stage.
