RPG Maker 2000 is a Program that allows people with little advanced computing skills to make a pretty entertaining Final Fantasy style RPG.

It was originally Japanese, although it was translated to English by Don Pedro. There are probably several hundred user-made games, with all kinds of plots. Maps are 2d tile-based, although parralax backgrounds and front-middle-back systems are possible. Games are based on "Events", which is a weird kind of tile/object-oriented system.

The entire system is very flexible, allowing someone with very little knowledge the ability to make a fairly enjoyable RPG fairly quickly. It's very nice, because things like creating your own classes are automated. There is no complicated scripting involved. One problem is that with all the automation, it is very difficult to create an alternate battle-system. However, someone with lots of experience with the system can make Day/Night Cycles, and the like.

If you've ever wanted to create your own RPG, but don't have the coding or graphical know-how to pull it off, I'd really recommend RPGMaker. After all, it's free.
