A form of motorsport popular everywhere except in America. Modified, but street-legal cars are released at 1 minute intervals on closed roads of about 3 to 25 miles in length. A co-driver is given a route book containing a series of instructions on course routing and hazards, and uses specialized odometers and clocks to give adequate warning to the driver. Events often span 2 days, and total mileages run are 200-300 miles, approx. 1/2 of that should be active competition on closed stages, the rest being transit between. The competitor with the lowest accrued time wins. The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) sanctions the few events that do run in the U.S. See http://www.cwl.com/bensrallypage/ for much more info.
