The PowerPC 603e is an enhanced version of the PowerPC 603 processor, introduced in 1996 and still used in embedded applications today. It is about 20-50% faster than the 603 at the same clock speed, due to its larger caches.

The main improvements compared to the 603 are:

  • up to 200MHz clock speed
  • larger on-chip caches: two 16KB 4-way set-associative instruction and data caches
