The second part of the Invasion block, Planeshift was one of the smaller. 143 card expansion sets for Magic: The Gathering, released on February 5, 2001. The expansion set symbol was a spiral, wider than it was tall, to make it look a little three-dimensional. A black symbol meant the card was common, silver meant uncommon, and gold meant rare.

The cards continued use of the Invasion play mechanic, kicker, plus new so-called abilities. Some cards have what's called "gating" - they're undercosted, but return other cards to your hand instead. "Domains" get stronger when a player controls more types of basic lands. And "familiars" are creatures that reduce casting costs.

Three of the cards had special alternative art, as a second, rarer foil. The three cards were Ertai, the Corrupted, Tahngarth, Talruum Hero, and Skyship Weatherlight.

Four preconstructed decks were also available, using cards from both Planeshift and Invasion.
