Peter Jones is probably best known to noders as the voice of The Book in Douglas Adams' The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. To millions, he will also be fondly remembered from the '60s and '70s series of The Rag Trade as Harold Fenner.

His comic talent added to a number of the Carry On films but his career started in the post-war years with a number of uncredited appearances. During the '50s he played a number of parts, specialising as a British Establishment figure, a role he played well.

His occasional appearances, such as in The Goodies or on Spike Milligan's Q-series, were always endearing.

For a list of screen appearances, check out the Internet Movie Database, at http://uk.imdb.com/Name?Jones,+Peter+(I). This doesn't cover radio, however, so his lengthy guest appearances on Just A Minute are omitted.
