Pectoral Implants:

This plastic surgery may be done to correct a congenital defect. It may be done to correct an injury or to to repair damage done by other surgery. It is most commonly done for purely cosmetic reasons; to enhance the appearance of chest muscle tone and definition in males.

The procedure is usually done on an out patient basis. A solid but soft silicone rubber implant is placed behind the pectoralis muscle. The implants vary in size and are available with smooth or textured surfaces.

The risks are similar to those of breast implants in women, except that there is no risk of capsular contracture or deflation, since the implants are solid rather than filled (to imitate the feel of muscle).
