I am always looking for an interesting, tasty, or unusual side dish to serve with holiday meals. The hostess at my thanksgiving dinner served some "store bought" side dishes from a swanky local market. One in particular tickled my palette, so I broke it down added my recipe for white sauce and would like to share it with E2

1/2 cups fresh pearl onions
2 cups fresh peas
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Fill a saucepan with water, and bring to a boil. Cook pearl onions in boiling water for 3 minutes, drain, and rinse in cold water. Peel onions, and remove the root ends.

Place onions with peas in the saucepan, and fill with enough water to just cover the vegetables. Simmer until tender, about 10 to 12 minutes. Drain, and place vegetables in a bowl.

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the flour stirring constantly until dissolved. Pour in cream, and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil; cook until thick, stirring constantly. Stir onions and peas into the sauce to coat.

Serve immediately.
