Author of the Rand Corporation's report "On Distributed Communications" commissioned by the Air Force and delivered in 1964.

Before joining the Rand Corporation in 1959, Baran worked as an electrical engineer for the Hughes aircraft companies systems division.

On Distributed Communications is possibly the first broad vision of a robust, distributed, packet-switched data network, and thus Baran should rightly be considered one of the fathers of the internet.
