A
composer born in 1953 near Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known for his scores composed for films. He studied
piano and
voice at the Royal Scottish Academy of
Music and
Drama where he graduated in 1974. His first score was for the
musical comedy Glasvegas. He then moved on to compose and act for British
television.
Joining the Renaissance Theater Company in 1987 run by Kenneth Branagh, Doyle began to gain a larger audience as he composed music for a television version of their production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. In 1989 Branagh had him write the score for his film version of Henry V, which started his work in film scoring.
His recent work includes the scores for A Little Princess, Sense and Sensibility, Bridget Jones' Diary, and Great Expectations.
