1991 documentary primarily about black and Latino drag queens in New York. Winner of the Sundance Festival Award. Using interviews and Drag Ball footage, the film explores the sub-culture that invented "voguing" (a sort of dance-fight made popular by Madonna. Although only 76 minutes, Director Jennie Livingston succesfully pieces together information about sub-culture terminology and custom, life stories from various participants (Including Street Hustlers, "Cover Girls" and aging Drag Divas) and footage from Drag Balls to paint a surprisingly poignant picture of their lives in late eighties Harlem.
