A friend of mine challenged me to write a villanelle using post-hardcore and black metal lyrics. I think that the form lends itself well to these genres.

Fade away the crimson from romance.
We are to the matter born.
Death distills the camouflage from our dance.

Spring is vibrant in expanse;
Verdant branches soon lie bare and shorn.
Fade away the crimson from romance,

Emperor. Bear the ultimate be. A glance
Between eternal now and forever's bourn.
Death distills the camouflage from our dance.

Glimpse of heaven born untrue, askance,
The dreamer's dream that melts into the morn.
Fade away the crimson from romance.

Tender age becomes a primal trance.
Horny limbs are honey yellow, worn.
Death distills the camouflage from our dance.

All our falling after in the flush advance
For the promise of the rose will bear the thorn.
Fade away the crimson from romance.
Death distills the camouflage from our dance.
