The paddy-wagon is the cell-on-wheels: the van with no windows and a police department emblem painted on the side.

Nowadays, it's called the "party wagon" instead; paddy-wagon is a racial slur referring to the disproportionate number of Irish cops.

It has also been theorized that the term paddy-wagon is a slur directed at the high irish population in general after the mass emigration out of Ireland during the potato famine. This is also around the time that the irish gained some of their notorious reputation of being drunken, rowdy individuals - owing largely to low-income immigrants to the U.S. from Ireland living in ghetto situations.
