An orbital piercing is a
piercing consisting of two holes, with one ring (usually a
CBR or
Captive Bead Ring) passing through both. It is easiest to heal each hole with a separate ring; healing the two together can put strain on the holes and create at worst,
hypertrophic scarring or
keloids, and at best, can slow healing time considerably.
Orbitals are mostly done in the ear cartilage, but can also be done in navel and tongue piercings.
The orbital piercing is closely related to the industrial piercing, which also uses one piece of jewelry to connect two holes; however, in an industrial piercing, a barbell is used instead of a ring.
