Originally named "Operation Thunderball", it occurred on July 3-4, 1976, when a team of Israeli commandos rescued 103 Jewish hostages at an airport in Entebbe, Uganda. Only two individuals, Lt. Commander Jonathan Netanyahu and Dora Bloch, lost their lives in the operation. Netanyahu was killed in the assault, and Bloch was killed by the terrorists at a hospital in Uganda (she had been taken away from the hostage site). The hostages had originally been on Air France Flight 139, which was hijacked after a connection in Athens, Greece.
