I am walking south on Broadway and all I can see is points of light against dark. I speculate that some of these are people, some cars, some storefronts, some just lights. I am reminded of something, a recognition trickling back, of something so primal I'd forgotten I knew. The noise blankets me. People push by, their invisible armor buzzing around them. Body halos of spikes and mace. This city can smell so good, like the armpit of a lover.
