A town in northern Michigan
, just south and east of the Mackinac Bridge
. Incorporated in 1899. Home to Onaway State Park
, Black Lake
and the nearby UAW
recreation center. The permanent population is just over 1,000 people, with some growth during the summer as vacationers and seasonal residents move in.
Notable for the Sturgeon Shivaree in the last weekend of February, a festival to celebrate the sturgeon of Black Lake. Also a fine place to hunt for the elusive morel mushroom as well as the odd bolete.
