I was browsing through my dictionary last night looking for English words
that didn't come from Latin
and came across three beauties:
Each of which come from a different Old Norse
word essentially meaning shit
! What a fabulous language English is!
In case you hadn't noticed, consecutive invasions of the British Isles
brought new words into the English Language
. Generally, the new words were used by the new ruling class, and life went on as normal
for the peasants. These lovely Viking
remnants have survived more than a thousand of years of shit-shovelling
Can you believe I actually made it from D
in one night? That was some strong coffee...!
