Small California town, population approx. 6000, about half an hour east of Santa Barbara and maybe fourty-five minutes north-east of Ventura. The semi-famous Indian mystic Krishnamurti used to practice and teach there during the 70s, and his enduring legacy can be found in the fact that to this day most of the town's population are either artists or new-age types. Ojai is situated in a picturesque mountain valley - in the 30s, the director of the movie Lost Horizon used it for their on-location shooting for the parts of the movie supposed to be set in Shangri-La. To this day, many local businesses have oh-so-clever references to Shangri-La in their names. It is one of the few municipalities in America with an elected mayor who belongs to the Green Party.
