Oh my love for the first time in my life
My eyes are wide open
Oh my lover for the first time in my life
My eyes can see

Tonight I was driving home from my girlfriend's house and in a very happy mood. I started playing Imagine where I'd left off when I got there: at the end of "Gimme Some Truth." "Oh My Love" came on. I'd listened to it before, but maybe not really heard it. Why this song is not considered to be among John Lennon's best eludes me. Unlike the songs before and after it on the album (it's followed by "How Do You Sleep?"), this is not just a good song but a really pretty one too. I know Lennon preferred the "harder" sound of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band to Imagine, and usually so do I, but "Oh My Love" demonstrates both that there is a place for soft music and that Lennon could write it wonderfully. (The song is jointly credited to Yoko Ono, and she certainly had some role in the feel of it, but it just as certainly does not sound much like her solo music.)
