Driving home I replay the moments
your rose scented laughter
cartoon sketches on the placemat
every fingertip on my sleeve, curious
shy eyes that became lasers, suddenly

the conversation was pedestrian:
the weather, her classes, waitress hygiene commentary, etc.
nothing of consequence was spoken aloud

halfway home now
humming along to my stereo's soft voice
playing steering wheel piano
I recall all of what was not said
spoken in voices too low for radar

in a language a heart knows
