The vast majority of the land occupied by the University of Waterloo is known as North Campus. In North Campus one can find:

If you drive around to the north side of North Campus you are sure to see a proud sign which reads "Welcome To University Of Waterloo, North Campus", behind which you will see trees, corn and nothing else.

It should be added that, in addition to all the things North Campus currently has, it also currently has a great deal of dug-up dirt and bulldozers.

The North Campus is (finally) being prepared to become the UW Research and Technology Park. Besides having two large roads and a traffic circle going through the middle of it, the park will be home to 1.2 million square feet of office space for technology companies, with the first comers (Sysbase) moving into the park in early 2004.

Because of all this construction, a small environmental reserve is being created one one side which includes Columbia Lake.
