Newport News, Virginia is located on the east coast of the United States of America in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, which is in Southeast Virginia, on the Chesapeake Bay which flows to the Atlantic Ocean.
It sits on the peninsula formed by the James River and York River. It is about 25 miles long and 5 miles wide and has about 190,000 citizens. Newport News is home to Newport News Shipbuilding which is where the navy builds nuclear submarines and nuclear aircraft carriers. The luxury liner SS United States was also built there. There are 18 public parks including newport news park which is approximately 8000 acres.
