Newcastle United are one of the largest football clubs in England, behind only Manchester United in terms of stadium capacity and regular crowd attendance. Currently managed by Sir Bobby Robson and captained by ex-England skipper Alan Shearer

The club was constituted in 1895 after changing the name of the old East End club and played from then on at St James Park in Newcastle where they still play in front on capacity crowds of 52,000 fans every week.

Home colours are a black and white vertically striped shirt with black shorts and socks.

The club is nicknamed 'The Magpies' by the rest of England due to the home strip, but in Geordieland is simply referred to as 'Toon'.

Main rivals are the other large north-east clubs of Middlesborough and Sunderland.
