In
Greek Mythology, Nereus was the god of the
Mediterranean Sea, AKA
The Old Man of the Sea. He was the son of
Gaia and
Pontus, married
Doris, and fathered the fifty
Nereids.
He was a gentle and wise god, and he and his daughters saved many ships from disaster in Aegean Sea, their primary home. Nereus had the ability to foretell the future, but he would not answer questions unless you could capture him. To avoid capture, he could also shape-shift.
