Naveed is the first CD by Our Lady Peace. As mentioned in the Our Lady Peace writeup, Naveed is the traditional Mideastern word for the bearer of good news, and also the name of a friend of the band. Starseed was the song that made it biggest on the radio, and overall the CD is very good, albeit a bit rougher than their later CDs.

Naveed is Our Lady Peace's debut album, and was released in 1994. Arnold Lanni acted as producer/co-writer, as he continued to do on the band's following three albums. It was released while Chris Eacrett was still the band's bassist (he was replaced with Duncan Coutts, due to "both personal and musical" problems). It has a grungier feel to it than the rest of OLP's albums, which is due to the change of bassists and their natural growth as musicians and song writers after this album. Also, the song Starseed is what helped propel them to the success they have now, not only because it was on the wildly popular Armageddon soundtrack, but because after Robert Plant heard it he instantly wanted Our Lady Peace to support him on his reunion tour with Jimmy Page.

The Birdman, Starseed, Hope, and Naveed were each released as a single and made into a music video. Supersatellite was released as a single, but no video was made. The lyrics to the title song are as follows:

Are you there, and is it comfortable?
Did you want to escape, try to escape the population?
The pressure is deceiving,
for you particularly should we let a young man die?

Let him die if he wants to?

Die if he wants to
I can't live here anymore,
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
and there's something that tears me inside, so I can't go

Brother are you there?
Now tell me is it wonderful?
Or were you hoping to find, hoping to find something a little more?

Climbing down the hours I need to know now.
Do the hands of time only rule this chapter?
I'll have to try once again, I'll have to try when I want to,
Try when I want to

I can't live here anymore,
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
and there's something that tears me inside.
I can't live here anymore
anymore, anymore

There he's on his knees again
trying hard to understand
why naveed would let a young man die
convinced that he might break he reaches for that phone
and then another day has gone
oh, another day is gone, oh another day
is gone, is gone, is gone, is gone
is gone, is gone, is gone, is gone
is gone, is gone, is gone, is gone
is gone, is gone, is gone, is gone

I can't live here anymore,
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
and there's something that tears me inside.
I can't live here anymore
I can't live here anymore
I can't live here anymore
I can't live here anymore
I can't live here anymore

anymore.
