A small town of just over 3,000 people located in southern Oregon
. Myrtle Creek is about 10 miles south of Roseburg
and about halfway between Medford
. It is located right off Interstate 5
The town itself is fairly unremarkable, but the area is nice in terms of scenic beauty. The town is on the banks of the South Umpqua river in the foothills of the Cascades mountain range.
Nearby attractions include Crater Lake, Wildlife Safari, the Myrtle Creek Golf Course, Seven Feathers Hotel and Casino Resort, the South Douglas Rodeo, and good fly-fishing in the Umpqua River.
The local public high school is called South Umpqua High School and draws students from the surrounding towns, including Myrtle Creek, Tri-City, and Canyonville.
There used to be a sign on the road into town that read "This town is patrolled by the Myrtle Creek Vigilantes for Justice", but thankfully it has been removed. Nevertheless, Myrtle Creek is a lumber town and the opinions of the populace tend towards conservatism.
