Halls of Residence for the
University of Glasgow.
The village is so called because there are five or six blocks of houses, with accomodation for 1100 people. Most are "Student House Units", which are 8 to 12 single rooms, sharing a kitchen and a couple of bathrooms. Also available are self contained flats, four or five single rooms sharing a kitchen/lounge area. (I'm not altogether clear what the difference is, but with the latter, bills are extra)
There's a central services building, with a medical centre, TV room, computer cluster, and various other admin services. Laundry can be done in each block.
According to the university, Murano Street is 10 minutes' walk from the University, but many students inevitably manage it faster when they're late for a 9am lecture.
