More importantly, the mountain peak which Herman Melville looked out through his second story window in his estate, named Arrowhead, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts during the winter, and saw covered in snow. From this he envisioned the great white whale Moby Dick, and, drawing from his 3 years in the West Indies on a whaling ship, he wrote his masterpiece, Moby Dick. If you have ever seen a picture of Moby Dick(the whale), there are two humps on his back. These are the peaks of Mt. Greylock and its sister mountain.
