A science fiction novel by John Barnes. The main plot of the book concerns giant hurricanes which form on Earth after a very sudden increase in global temperature caused by the release of massive amounts of methane gas into the atmosphere. Even though this sounds like a set-up for your generic near-future-global-warming-disaster sci-fi novel, Mother of Storms is not of that ilk.
There are also several good sub-plots in the book, one of which confronts man's relationship with the technology he creates in a fascinating manner. The characters are well developed, and the technology is interesting. It's a great read, and one of my favorite sci-fi books.
