The Mother’s Cross (sorta like the Olympics of childbirth) was the brainchild of one Adolf Hitler. It seems that he thought that the women of Germany weren’t content with just spitting out future Nazi’s. He also thought they needed more incentive when creating the “master race". Hitler also realized that in order to staff the German Reich and his armies, couples should be encouraged to have large families and to start ‘em early.

So, on August 12th, 1938 (his own mother's birthday), and each year afterward, a gold medal would be awarded to women with seven or more children. The silver medal went to those women who manufactured six kids and the bronze went to women with five. I don’t even want to know what consolation prizes went to women with less children or who couldn’t have kids at all.
