1. To add methyl alcohol to ethanol to render it undrinkable.
  2. To replace an atom, usually a hydrogen, with a methyl group.

Meth"yl*ate (?), n. [Methyl + alcoholate.] Chem.

An alcoholate of methyl alcohol in which the hydroxyl hydrogen is replaced by a metal, after the analogy of a hydrate; as, sodium methylate, CH3ONa.
