The Mercury
Music Prize aims to celebrate the best in
British music regardless of
genre. Founded in 1992 it has become one of the premier
music awards in the
UK
Sponsored by Technics, in association with the BPI and BARD, the prize itself is awarded by a panel of independent judges, who select the overall winner from a shortlist of twelve albums.
I always make a point of buying the winners album, as no matter what your feelings towards the particular style of music it is classed as, it tends to go on to be regarded as a classic
