Roman Emperor from 306 to 312 CE, a very tumultuous time in Roman history. Fought the Eastern Emperor, Constantine in 312 outside of Rome at the Milvian Bridge, now called Ponte Molle. The smaller army of Constantine, reportedly strengthed through the intervention of God, routed Maxentius and his troops. While retreating back across the bridge, he fell off and was drowned. Constantine took Rome and became emperor, eventually making Christianity the state religion.
