An Indonesian word meaning "dark eye" or "dilated eye". It is a warning sign that someone is going to enter a berserker rage and begin killing everyone around them.

In Walter Jon Williams' novel Aristoi, mataglap is the term for grey goo, destructive panphagic nanotech. It gained its name through the destruction of Earth due to someone in Indonesia who made a big mistake. Mataglap is universally feared, and the main reason the creation of nanotechnology is severely restricted to everyone but the Aristoi. One of Gabriel's, the novel's protagonist, daimones is named Mataglap. This daimon is appropriately enough a berserker who sees malice in everyone and urges Gabriel to strike first with lethal intent at any potential threat. Gabriel is careful to keep Mataglap on a tight leash.
