Am I the only one to whom this makes no sense? A Google search revealed it to be a surname... for several people. It also appears to be an element of heraldry. Looking more carefully, it does indeed make sense.

In heraldry, both the lozenge and the mascle are diamond-like shapes, but the mascle is not solid, it is an outline. My search is complete!
