Every morning
Mary writes letters
Describing the view from her apartment
And her new job
She keeps a fresh stack of stationery under her bed

Sometimes Mary sends picture postcards
To family near and far
They are not places she has been,
Just photos of the town she lives in
Various "so called landmarks"
She calls them landmines

You should steer clear of them
She cautions

Mary makes friendship bracelets
in her spare time
But has yet to give one away

she says
she hasn't found anyone deserving

Every night
Mary takes her letters to the blue post office box on the corner
In clean white envelopes
With no stamp, no name and no address
The next day the postman throws them all away
