A massive, privately held corporation owned by the extremely private Mars family of Virginia. The company was founded in 1911 and now produces candy (M&M's, Mars bar, Skittles, Milky Way, Dove, Snickers and Three Musketeers), rice (Uncle Ben's Rice) and dog food (Kal Kan and Pedigree). They have done very well; in 1989, four Mars family billionaires were listed at 29, 30, 31 and 33rd place in Forbes Magazine's ranking of the richest Americans.
