Sergeant Mark F. Parry, 42, of Bel Air, Maryland died on January 22, 2002 of injuries he suffered on December 27, 2001 when his patrol car was hit by a man accused of driving drunk. Parry was a father of three and a 16-year veteran and supervisor in the Towson precinct of the Baltimore County Police Department. He is the seventh in the 128-year history of the force to be killed while on duty.

Parry suffered several broken bones and severe head injuries and had to be cut from his Crown Victoria. The driver of the sport utility vehicle, Cesar Humberto, fled the scene. He was found sitting on a bench about a half mile from the accident.

On January 23, 2002, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening ordered the Maryland State Flag be flown at half staff until sunset of interment in his honor.
