Mark Deutsch is a
musician who is a
classically trained bassist, a
sitarist, and the
inventor and primary player of the
Bazantar. A performing musician since age twelve, he has experience in
orchestral music,
sitar performance, and
jazz improvisation, and
global folk traditions. He is a composer and also plays
electric bass and
guitar as well as teaching
composition and
music theory.
He has performed with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and led his own jazz quintet, blues band, and acoustic folk-rock group. Recently he has been concentrating on the Bazantar, performing solo and with various groups of musicians as well as lecturing about the Bazantar and the nature of improvised music. He has also released a solo album entitled Fool..., featuring compositions for sitar and the Bazantar.
