Required Equipment:
  • 1 - 6' (2m) Cat-5 network cabling (uncrimped)
  • 1 - RJ-45 Adapter
  • 1 - Female DB-9 Serial Adapter
  • RJ-45 Crimpers
  • Soldering Iron/Solder

Start with the piece of CAT-5 network cabling (about 6 feet long). Wire one end with an RJ-45 jack with the standard wire pattern:
OR/W OR G/W B B/W G BR/W BR

The other end needs to be connected to a female DB-9 serial port adapter. Pin configuration:

Solder the wires as follows:
RJ-45 | DB-9

  3   | ---
  4   |  5
  5   |  3
  6   |  2
  7   | ---
  8   | ---

DB-9  | Cat-5

Pin 2 | Green
Pin 3 | Blue/White
Pin 5 | Blue

If soldering is done correctly, you should now have a working Management Cable for your Cisco 67x router. You may find it helpful to get a piece of paper and some crayons and draw a diagram to visualize it better.
