The Mach 5 is the race car that Speed Racer drives. It was build by his father, Pops Racer. It has such amazing features as buzz saws, traction tires, a homing pigeon robot, submarine mode, night vision headlights, jump jacks, and a periscope. Using these, Speed Racer can cheat his way to victory.

February 24, 1949: A WAC Corporal second-stage rocket was mounted on top of an older German V-2 rocket (whoohoo!) and launched from the proving ground of White Sands, NM, achieving a top speed of 5150 m/h when it re-entered the atmosphere. This was the first incidence of a piece of machinery exceeding Mach 5.
