Made in 1993, it is the third feature film directed by Canadian Denys Arcand, and his first in English. It is an adaptation of the stage script "Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love" written by Brad Fraser in 1991.

It is about people in their late twenties who have no family, and no place in the world. They live in mediocrity, seeking belonging. Oh, and there is a serial killer who collects the earrings of his victims.
