Live Aid was one of the most memorable charity concert events of the 1980s. Organized by Boomtown Rats member Bob Geldof in order to raise money of victims of famine in Africa, the concert which was held on July 13, 1985 attracted thousands of viewers both in person at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and on the TV channels ABC and MTV (when it still played music!).

The stars at Wembley included Status Quo, Queen, Sting, Adam Ant, Sade, Elton John Elvis Costello, U2, David Bowie, and The Who.

Some of the stars who played JFK were Joan Baez (who told the audience the concert was "your Woodstock"), Madonna, Run-DMC, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Kenny Loggins, The Cars, Mick Jagger and Tina Turner, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Black Sabbath, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, and Duran Duran.

Phil Collins attended both concerts first at Wembley, than flying on the Concorde to appear at JFK.

The concert is said to have raised over £250,000,000 (approx. $369,545,403.38), in all.
